In the last couple of years, our ministry partners at the ‘Life Centre’ have been given permission by the village elder to organise and host a special activity day for the village children – and this year it was our turn to plan it all…no pressure! We had a dedicated ministry team in organisation mode, the rest of us turned up on the day to help out and get stuck in to what was such a joyous occasion 🙂 It really touched my heart to see so many children have beaming smiles on their faces…God too was definitely smiling that day. To see them act like children for a time, in an environment where they’ve had to grow up quickly in many ways, was a blessing. My role was to paint the beautiful faces of the little ones – it’s been a long time since I got the paint out!!
They seemed to be having the best time of their lives, so regardless of the intense heat which we are still getting used to, it was all so worth it. The boys in the team started a football match with the youngsters, and the rest of the team were cooking up a storm in the kitchen with chicken kebabs and corn on the grill! The food we bought and cooked for them went down a storm, it felt amazing to do this kind gesture in Jesus’ name. He definitely had His hand on it all, the day went so smoothly…
Bringing the children of the village together doesn’t happen that often, if hardly ever, so to have some input in making the event a success was beyond an honour. Having the opportunity to experience a day like this one really incapsulated the essence of my goals for this mission trip – to see fruit in our actions and the love of God pouring out to all his cherished sons and daughters.
What a lovely way to bring your time away closer to its conclusion. It’s wonderful to see the impact on the children you served and the joy on your face as you serve.
